NOTE: Marking or engraving your 80% lower with a serial number is not required in any state, except for California when AB 857 takes effect on July 1, 2018. Serial number engraved 80% lowers are available to residents of any state, which again, is optional for residents outside California. Residents outside of California may wish to voluntarily mark the receiver frames in the event of loss or theft.

For California Residents: On July 1, 2018, California AB 857 will go into effect, requiring California residents who wish to comply, to have marked any home-built firearms per the ATF's minimum requirements for firearm marking and identification.

California AB 857 states that homemade firearms must be marked by July 1, 2018 in compliance with minimum requirements set forth by the ATF. Failure to mark home-built 80 percent lowers by July 1, 2018 will result in the need to apply to the state Department of Justice for a serial number, thereby registering the serial number and firearm. Buy your 80% Lowers Pre-Engraved now, before AB 857 takes effect.

In 2016, California Lawmakers passed AB 857 pertaining to firearm identifying information. This bill specifically targets homemade firearms finished from 80% lower receivers, and will take effect on July 1, 2018. In order for compliance, and to potentially avoid future registration, all homemade firearms must be marked by July 1, 2018. California has adopted the minimum requirements of the ATF for firearm identification. Therefore, all serial numbers and markings applied to homemade firearms must be conspicuously applied and meet the minimum following requirements:

1. Manufacturer Name: In this case, the manufacturer is the individual who completes the 80% lower. This must be the full name of the person who will finish the 80% lower.

2. Location: The home city and state of the individual who will finish the 80% lower.

3. Caliber Designation: With greater than 50 widely utilized AR-15 platform calibers, we will apply CAL-MULTI to the receiver to satisfy this requirement.

4. Serial Number: Serial numbers must be Alphanumeric (0-9, A-Z) characters only. NO SPACES. No special or foreign characters.

5. Depth and Size: Per the ATF, all engraving must be to a depth greater than .003 and no smaller than 1/16" of an inch. Our engraving will exceed the minimum depth and size.

Failure to apply compliant markings to homemade firearms by July 1, 2018 is not recommended, as it will result in the need for applying to the CA DOJ for a serial number and paying a fee. Starting January 1, 2019 the CA DOJ will begin accepting applications for the issuance of serial numbers for any homemade firearm which does not bear a compliant marking as of July 1, 2018.
